While it is a fraction delayed. I felt it was important to write about the end of 2016 and look back on the year as a whole.
2016 was a year that, for myself, was tumultuous and unstable on both a personal and global scale. By the year's end, as the world watched in horror or rabid joy, the election of a man many believe the be the anti-thesis of everything America is built upon, I had reached the point where I was suffering what are known as 'acute stress reactions' on a frequent basis.
The closest way in which I can describe how such a thing feels, is to ask you to imagine that you are completely paralyzed, that you are slowly being crushed by an invisible weight to the point where you cannot breathe, move, think or even ask for help. While this is occurring you are simultaneously experiencing the excruciating pain of a red-hot wire being dragged through the center of your eye and out through the back of you skull. I came close to giving up on almost all of my passions. Holding on to photography with a white knuckled grip.
Thankfully I did.
Roping in one of my favourite models (the ever adventurous Kira, who was the first feature on this portrait blog), I threw myself into the creative breach once again.

In a political climate soaked in controversy and debate over civil and women's rights, as well as an elected (now inaugurated) President. This image has become a favourite of mine as, without intention, it stirs in the mind all the issues surrounding anti-trump protests (at least in regards to women's rights) as well as the President of the United States' unending diatribe of sexist and misogynistic comments.
Enjoy some images of Kira in all her empowered sexuality, cast against the American flag.
